Similarities between the genocides
- A geographical factor similar between the genocide would be the want of the land, isolated during the genocides.
- Economically the lands were both wanted prior to the genocide.
- Both leaders had enough power to influence the people.
- Both the Rwandans and the Ukrainians seeked to assert their independence, regarding their land.
Differences between the genocides
- Rwandan deaths: 800,000 to 1,000,000
- Holodomor deaths: between 2.5 and 7.5 million
- The Rwandan situation was immediately recognized internationally as a genocide, unlike the Holodomor which took decades to be officially considered as a genocide in certain countries
- The Hutu' s used brute forced to invoke their power over the Tutsis, while the Soviet Union used starvation as a method.
